Provocation

Have you ever allowed yourself to fall apart completely?

Process

For this piece, Cosmophage collaborated with botanical design studio Saint Agnes to create an experience of collective melting for 25 guests at the height of summer.

We developed five courses to express different ways to melt (a spicy tomato-dashi broth to make you sweat, an ice cream tower that slowly dripped down into ice cream soup) and built a sidewalk installation of sculptures made of wax and ice.

The night before the event, we learned an August hurricane was on its way, and in the spirit of surrender, decided to host MELT outside in the pouring rain.

Dish: leche de tigre granita, scooped into the right hand and melted upon skin contact. Dripped into the left hand over fish and chayote.

Dish: Île Flottante made with melted ice cream.

Invitation

“At the heaviest time of the summer heat, we invite you to languidly fall apart: to yield, to droop and to surrender with us. Wax, ice, barriers, foods and hearts will dissolve in slow motion over the course of two hours. Wear comfortable clothes you’ll be able to get messy in. BYO umbrella.”

Dish: tomato-dashi broth poured over “falling apart” rice, chili oil.
